Duty of Care

Duty of Care

In this policy, “infectious diseases” means illnesses that can spread from person to person. Examples include, but are not limited to, illnesses such as COVID, flu, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), mpox, and other contagious diseases.

As the event host, NBDF follows the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and complies with the legal public health rules in the city and state where the event takes place.

All participants are STRONGLY encouraged to:

  • Stay up to date on vaccines for common infections like COVID, flu, and RSV, including boosters when needed.
  • Consider obtaining a test for common infectious diseases prior to attending any NBDF hosted Event, especially if exhibiting symptoms. By attending in person, you agree to take steps to protect your health and the health of others at the event and after you return home.

Participants are expected to:

  • Follow the CDC's guidance on protecting themselves and others from contagious diseases and respiratory illnesses, accessible on their official website.
  • Do not attend if you have symptoms of an infection, like fever, cough, or feeling very unwell.
  • Leave the event should symptoms of any infectious disease develop.

NBDF may update this policy if public health guidance changes. During high-risk periods, the CDC may recommend indoor masking.  Masks may be optional at the event, and we ask everyone to respect each person’s choice. Harassment is not allowed.

NBDF will continually monitor and revise safety precautions, coordinating with national health resources, state and local health agencies, and venues. We reserve the right to modify these policies as needed.

Expected Behavior for All Attendees:

  • Acknowledge the inherent risk of exposure to infectious diseases in public settings.
  • Be open to on-site testing if required.
  • Masks are optional but encouraged for those at high risk or living with high-risk individuals. Respect others' health choices.
  • Stay home if positive for any infectious disease, awaiting test results, exhibiting symptoms, feeling unwell, or if you've had close contact with someone who is ill.

Other Expected Behaviors:

  • Treat everyone with respect and value different views and opinions.
  • Strive for inclusive, transparent, and open communication.
  • Be considerate, respectful, and collaborative in speaking and listening.
  • recognize and appreciate the contributions of others.
  • Follow the rules and policies of the Event.
  • Follow all safety protocols set by NBDF and venues, including protocols in place for all infectious diseases.
  • Respect all participants’ personal choices.
